This year I vowed to be more physically active, but I will be honest; I hate working out! I have been going to the gym regularly for a few months now but just because I know it’s good for me. I was asking my friends about planning a group fitness date. Little did I know my friend, Domonique Revere-Lincoln of Empress Lingerie was expanding her brand and planning a series of fitness events, Intimate Fitness. Saturday, February 9th was her first event and I was excited to see her vision come to fruition.
The series includes fun ways to be physically active. The first session was The Art of Burlesque and was held in Philadelphia at Studio 1831. Burlesque is defined as ”a humorous and provocative stage show featuring slapstick humor, comic skits, bawdy songs, striptease acts, and a scantily clad female chorus.” Valentine’s Day is right around the corner so what perfect timing to brush up on my moves! I thought the class would be all in fun but it was really a great workout. The instructor, Valarie, was amazing. The workout targets muscles you don’t use on a daily basis and had us sweating. The other participants were great, no one took themselves too seriously and we had some great laughs. It was so refreshing to find a workout environment where I could enjoy exercising for a change.
I’m hooked and I hope you’ll join me at the next Intimate Fitness event in Washington DC on Saturday, April 6th. This one is pole dance so it should be interesting to say the least!
